Speyside Cooperage has specialized in providing barrels for spirit-making since 1947. With that longevity comes a wealth of experience and knowledge in the industry. All our skill goes into making top quality barrels to meet the requirements and expectations of spirit-makers all over the world.
Speyside Bourbon Cooperage, Inc. is a subsidiary of Tonnellerie Francois Freres, a global cooperage company. We have cooperages and stave mills located around the world and are specialists in every aspect of the industry. Our aim at Speyside Bourbon Cooperage is to ensure that barrels become a modern spirit-making instrument by combining age-old craftsmanship and state of the art techniques with equipment developed by our research and development team.
Speyside Bourbon Cooperage purchases high quality Appalachian, Ozark and Northern White Oak, sourcing and hand-selecting all of our raw materials, much of it coming from within a 30-mile radius of our Jackson, Ohio facility. The oak is weathered for a minimum of six months drying time in our outdoor storage yards. After air drying, raw materials are brought inside the facility to continue the seasoning process in several steps. We operate our own pre-drying and kiln systems to ensure perfect, controlled drying. After many months of weathering and drying, the raw materials are moved into the production facility for processing.
All of our staves and headings are jointed on custom made CNC jointing machines. CNC jointing makes a tighter fitting barrel, almost completely eliminating leaks and reducing evaporation loss. Our quality jointing process produces a dimensionally consistent, repeatable barrel every time.
All of the machinery at Speyside is new to the barrel making industry and custom for our facility. Modern manufacturing principles are built in, with quality control and safety being paramount. Computer controls allow machinery to be programmed, producing a consistent barrel.
Furthermore, we offer a variety of Spirit Barrels made of different oaks and other selected types of wood, such as French Oak, American Oak, Caucasian Oak, Carpathian Oak, Spanish Oak, Hungarian Oak, Mizunara Oak, Danish Oak, Acacia, Ash, Chestnut, Cherry Tree, Mulberry, at.
